One of the most magical stately homes in England and just on our doorstep! Lucky us! Luckier still, we have the privilege of being one out their trusted partners, which means we get the absolute joy of being a Cliveden House Wedding Photographer and photographing Cliveden House Weddings and this stunning architectural masterpiece and picturesque gardens.
Cliveden was built in 1668 and was commissioned by the Second Duke of Buckingham as a hunting lodge and place for parties and liaisons with his mistress, the Countess of Shrewsbury. It’s now a 5* hotel, offering the highest luxury, all set within 376 Acres of beautiful National Trust land and manicured gardens.
Cliveden is famous for its parties and long may that continue! It’s the perfect setting for a wedding and does luxury and grandeur, mixed with a homely atmosphere well. Anyone who was anyone partied here in the early 20th century and the lucky couples that get to do so today – well, they have a truly special place to call their wedding venue.
Cliveden does packages for up to 60 people, where you get the honour of having your wedding breakfast in Lady Astor’s day room – The Boudoir, or the jewel in the crown – The French Dining Room, a golden room that looks straight out of Versailles. And that’s not far off; it was bought piece by piece by Lord Astor from a chateau on the outskirts of Paris and was specially designed for Madame Du Pompadour! It has entertained the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, Gandhi, Joyce Grenfell, Charlie Chaplin, to name a few and if you are lucky to sit around the dining table, you can just imagine those famous few dining with you!
If you have over 60 people and you are lucky enough to take the house exclusively, then you really are in for a treat. The Great Hall and Library offer wooden panelled marvelousness and the staircase provides a quite simply wow factor entrance – for those brides that want an entrance, this is THE venue for you! André Garrett at Cliveden provides a beautiful dining space, with views over the terrace and parterre gardens, which are an absolute joy to behold, with far reaching views over the Thames and far beyond. Added to the boutique and recently refurbished bedrooms, all beautifully decorated and furnished and super luxurious, Cliveden provides the most wonderful retreat and place to stay. Your guests will be completely wowed!
The infamous pool from The Profumo Affair is located in the serene spa, which guests can use. Then there is Spring Cottage – a hidden place of pure beauty and tranquillity, which could be reserved just for the bride and groom –we really want to find an excuse to stay there! A cute cottage built by the Duchess of Sutherland to take afternoon tea with Queen Victoria who had taken a boat to Cliveden from Windsor Castle. You can even get married here too! How amazing is that!
We adore Cliveden House in so many ways – from the moment you turn up the grand drive and see the fountain and house you know something special is in store. The house and gardens and everything they offer provide the most picturesque and glorious backdrop, with so many hidden places and areas where the most magical images can be captured. If you want somewhere really quite unique and the most magical wedding venue, that is close to London but surrounded by countryside, then Cliveden is the most perfect venue for you.
